Daniele J. Montgomery, MD
Dr. Daniele J. Montgomery is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine and practices at the Cancer Specialists of North Florida St. Augustine Cancer Center.
Dr. Montgomery’s area of interest is breast cancer. Before moving to Florida, she was involved in clinical research in breast cancer in an academic center and was the director of a province-wide breast cancer screening program in Ontario.
She joined Cancer Specialists of North Florida in order to practice in a large, cohesive group. “This favors access to many resources not otherwise available in a small practice. It facilitates the development and implementation of guidelines, policies and procedures, and increases the quality of care,” she says.
Dr. Montgomery chose to specialize in oncology because it is “an exciting and dynamic field which was academically stimulating and encompassed all areas of medicine.”
“Oncology is a field in which one gives hope to patients and their families,” she says. “My father died of cancer when I was 15 years old, and I saw how much the attitude and care of the oncologists was important, even in an incurable situation. I also was influenced by a rotation at the Princess Margaret Hospital, a dedicated cancer hospital, where the concern for patients motivated all the staff, from the cleaners to the CEO.”
Of her career accomplishments, Dr. Montgomery is “most proud of delivering comprehensive and compassionate care to cancer patients.”
She has learned from her patients that “any adversity can be surmounted in a positive manner, that every minute is precious, and that life must be lived to the fullest.”
If Dr. Montgomery were not a physician, she would love to be an architect. “When I was a kid, my cousin and I spent innumerable hours drawing elaborate houses. I am fascinated by the marriage of structure and function and the creativity involved with architecture. I would dearly love to design a hospital which has a better design for patients.”
Dr. Montgomery grew up Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and moved to Toronto following medical school for her internship and fellowship. She joined Cancer Specialists of North Florida in 1994.
Her outside interests include walking her German shepherd, swimming, reading, playing the piano, gardening, and spending time with and cooking for friends and family.
