Linda S. Sylvester, MD
Dr. Linda S. Sylvester is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. She practices at the Cancer Specialists of North Florida Orange Park Cancer Center.
Her areas of interest include breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, and colon cancer.
Dr. Sylvester is the co-founder, with Dr. Cynthia Anderson of Florida Radiation Oncology Group, of the Pink Ribbon Symposium, a 501c3 founded in 2007 to reach out to the community and to share knowledge about breast cancer, survivorship, and good health and wellness lifestyles.
She is encouraged about the advances in cancer treatment; particularly the new drugs, biotechnology, and molecular biology that will eventually be available to both treat and prevent cancer and other diseases.
Born and raised in Manhattan, N.Y., Dr. Sylvester joined Cancer Specialists of North Florida in 1998.
“We have excellent treatment here. We have cutting-edge treatments, excellent clinical trials, and state of the art diagnostic modalities,” she says of the practice.
Dr. Sylvester is a firm believer in listening to her patients and stresses the importance of knowing one’s family medical history. “I enjoy helping patients survive cancer and understand that it is a disease that should be treated in most cases like a chronic condition, like hypertension, asthma, or diabetes,” she says.
Dr. Sylvester received her Bachelor of Arts in French at City University of New York and spent her senior year abroad at the Université de Nancy in France. Returning to the U.S., she earned a Master of Arts in Education/Education Administration at New York University. A talented linguist, she speaks both French and Spanish fluently.
Dr. Sylvester is an active participant on many medical committees and gives her time to lecture on subjects including “Tamoxifen for High-Risk Patients,” “Breast Cancer Update,” and “Breast Cancer – Past, Present and Future.” She is an Adjunct Professor at NOVA University in Jacksonville.
In her spare time, Dr. Sylvester enjoys spending time with her family, jazzercising, boating, kayaking, walking her dog, and being involved in international cultural exchange activities in Jacksonville.
