Dr. Marsland Discusses Breast Cancer on WBOB

Cancer Specialists of North Florida (CSNF) physician Dr. Thomas Marsland was a guest on Life Radio hosted by Jon Vedas on AM 600 WBOB to discuss breast cancer screening and treatment on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Vedas prompted Dr. Marsland to discuss why early cancer detection is important. “Early detection is important because the cancers that are easier to cure are the ones found in their earlier stages. The survival rate is much higher for Stage I cancer versus Stage IV,” said Dr. Marsland.

Focusing on breast cancer specifically, Dr. Marsland offered a call to action for knowing your risk factors, and for discussing with your physician when is best to begin yearly mammograms.

"There has been a lot of controversy about when to start having mammograms, and how often,” said Dr. Marsland. He continued, “You really ought to know your risk factors. That will determine if you need to adhere to the guidelines or not. Risk factors can include many things such as family history, whether or not you have children, and when you have them.”
